Quiet Session: September 2022

We stay open late on the first Wednesday of every month and invite those with sensory difficulties to enjoy our exhibits without the noise and crowds.

7th September (16:30 to 18:00)

Enjoy the calm seas…

Our quiet sessions welcome pre-booked arrivals from 16:30 (with last entry at 17:00), with the session closing at 18:00.

The event is for people with autism and other sensory needs and their families, although we welcome anyone who feels they may benefit from the more relaxed session, we just ask all guests to be considerate of other’s needs!

How we make the museum more comfortable:

  • Less crowds: It’s pre-booked entry only, so no daytime rush
  • Reduced sounds: Sound is at bare minimum with all speakers off
  • Screens: All projectors and almost all screens will be off
  • Break space: Seating available in the centre of the museum to allow for breaks
  • Map: You’ll get a sensory map on entry, please ask the crew if your require extra copies
  • Flexible routes: No one-way systems,  you can skip or return to areas as you need
  • Visor/Defender positive: Customers are welcome to bring any sensory protective equipment
  • Extra defenders: we have a limited amount of ear defenders available on request

More to know before you go…

Our lighting can be bright and stimulating in some areas. Our sensory map will warn of spaces with bright or dim lighting with red markings for any moving or flashing lights. We’ll turn down as much as we can as well as turning off as much effect lighting as possible.

Our site is generally very accessible, however due to the age of the building and the layout of the underground tunnels there are some areas that are not suitable for wheelchairs (including electric) and some buggies and scooters.  We offer limited availability Buggy parking within our reception area.

Due to the range of sensory needs of other families attending this event, we cannot guarantee that the museum will be quiet throughout the evening.

This event is by pre-booked entry only, book your tickets here!
